If you have never been
Your first meeting
You can just sit in the back and listen. Plenty of people do exactly that for their first meeting, or their first twenty, and nobody thinks twice about it.
You do not have to say you are an alcoholic or an addict, and you do not have to say anything at all. If the group goes around the room, a simple pass is always allowed.
Showing up counts. And if one meeting is not your crowd, that is fine; try a different one before you write it all off. Every meeting has its own personality, and there is one out there that will feel like yours.
